Quote of the Month
"Journaling is like whispering to one’s self and listening at the same time."
— Mina Murray
A Soft Start — Journaling My Way Back to Myself
August was another whirlwind—mom-ing two kids getting ready for college, building my business while handling all the day-to-day, hosting weekly coaches calls, 1:1 coaching, juggling social life, phone calls, and every administrative detail (still just me over here, folks!). I was exhausted and frustrated—convinced I hadn’t accomplished a thing.
One night, I realized something: I hadn’t taken my own advice. I love journaling, but life had pushed it to the back burner. That, right there, was a red flag.
So I started small. At the end of each workday, I simply wrote down three things I accomplished—just three. And magic started happening.
What began as a short list—like “answered that email, cooked dinner, prepped for coaching”—grew over the week. My list went from three to six, and then included what I’d started and planned to finish the next day. Suddenly, all the invisible work became visible. I saw that progress was happening.
And you know what? The exhaustion did too—it lifted. My stress faded because I knew things were getting done.
Journaling doesn't require deep essays. It can be as simple as recognizing what you've done. That gentle reminder each evening can shift your whole outlook.
Here’s why this habit works—beyond just feeling good:
Writing by hand stimulates more brain regions, boosting memory and learning more than typing ever could
Expressive writing can significantly reduce symptoms of anxiety, PTSD, and depression—sometimes up to 9% for anxiety and 6% for PTSD
Journaling helps us process emotions, reduce stress, gain clarity, and better understand recurring patterns in our lives
So here’s your gentle nudge for September: journal just a little. Let your brain see your wins and your heart feel the quiet peace of proof you’re making a difference.
